Letting God Lead

If you’ve read the “About” section, you will know that I have always considered myself to be a believer – I’ve always believed in God, I’ve always believed that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He lived among us in human form, and died as the ultimate sacrifice. I’ve always believed He rose again, freeing us from death, and I’ve always believed in the Holy Spirit.

So, I believe. What’s next? What does it mean to be a true follower of Jesus?

Perhaps I’m supposed to wear sandals and a bathrobe and wander around the park carrying a sign that says, “Jesus Saves.”

Maybe believing is enough and I should just go about my business, pursuing the life I choose, doing more-or-less whatever I want—provided I attend church every Sunday, of course.

Somehow, neither of those options seem quite right, though. Do they?

I’ve struggled with this for many years, and for many years, I took more of a “middle ground” approach, always trying to be a good person, trying to do what I think God would want me to do … provided it wasn’t too inconvenient. For the most part, however, I simply went about my business and kept Jesus comfortably in the background.

But there was something about that approach that seemed lacking, as well.

It wasn’t until I stepped back and let God take the lead that things began to truly change in my life. His will had to take precedence.

“Not my will, Lord, but yours.”

That is now my constant prayer, and it has made all the difference.

It doesn’t matter what I’m praying about, as long as my heart remains open to what He wants and where He wants me to be, I know that everything will work out better than it would have if I had done it on my own.

This means hearing “No” a lot. But that’s okay, because I know it’s God saying, “I have something better in store for you.” And He does.

Understand that I don’t get it right all the time. I stumble often and mess up on a regular basis. I am saved by grace and grace alone.

It’s these stories that I want to share through this blog. It’s these specific ways that God has shown me His something better, not just in my day-to-day, but also in preparing me for eternity with Him.
